Rest Days
We can’t stress enough how important rest days are for you AND your dog! Don’t burn yourself out and get frustrated. Leave a training session with you BOTH wanting more. You and your dog should be happy and excited to train. A clear head and rested body is needed in order to succeed.
What does a rest day consist of?
🐾REST! Have a chill day. Let your pup relax. Decompress with some crate or place work time.
🐾Rehydrate. You and your dog need to be hydrated and full of the nutrients you need to compete at your absolute best.
🐾Enrichment. It’s ok to still let your dog use their brain! Let them do some puzzle games or safe chews. Licking and chewing relaxes your dog and releases endorphins.
🐾An easy and slow walk with your dog is always a nice way to relax as well. No hiking. No sprints. No playing fetch. Just a nice slow walk to loosen up and bond with your dog.
Why are rest days so important?
- Helps to avoid burn out/over training.
- Less chance of frustration.
- Gives you and your pet a physical and mental break.
- Helps to create a calmer mindset for you both.
- Less chance for injury.
- This includes ANY type of training. (sport, obedience, tricks, ect.)
Whether your dog is a high end athlete, doing rehab for an injury, going through obedience training or hikes. This applies for ALL activities!
